Day 01 19/03/2016 Arrive Delhi
Saturday 19 March 2016. Welcome to India and the start of your holiday! Upon arrival in Delhi an included transfer will take you to your hotel. Spend the rest of the afternoon and evening at your own leisure.
Day 02 20/03/2016 Delhi – Visit Old & New Delhi
This morning, our Welcome Meeting takes place. We then enjoy a full day sightseeing tour of Old and New Delhi, taking in the Red Fort, Jama Masjid – India’s oldest and largest mosque and Raj Ghat – the site of Gandhi’s cremation in Old Delhi, and the Rajpath and India Gate in New Delhi. Tonight, we enjoy a Namaste Dinner at a restaurant specialising in Indian cuisine.
Day 03 21/03/2016 Delhi – Agra
Delhi – Agra. Departing Delhi, we make our way to Agra, the erstwhile capital of the Mughal empire. Our first stop here is the impressive Agra Fort, which boasts some of India’s finest Mughal buildings behind its fortified walls. Later we travel on to the legendary Taj Mahal. Built by the order of Emperor Shah Jahan in the 17th century in affectionate memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz, the Taj Mahal is perhaps one of the most extravagant monuments to love ever built and has no peers.
Day 04 22/03/2016 Agra – Fatehpur Sikri – Jaipur
Agra – Jaipur. En route to Jaipur we visit the ghostly former Mughal city of Fatehpur Sikri, which has been deserted for over four centuries after it was allegedly abandoned due to a lack of water. Thanks to the very durable red sandstone from which it was built, Fatehpur Sikri still remains well-preserved and is a fascinating place to explore. Later we drive to Jaipur, the bustling capital of the state of Rajasthan. Afternoon visit City Palace and Jantar Mantar – an old yet cleverly designed space observatory.
Day 05 23/03/2016 Jaipur
It’s an early start today as the festivities of Holi bring thousands of people out onto the streets in a dazzling display of colour and good cheer. Celebrated every year in February or March, the ancient Hindu festival of Holi originated as a celebration of the end of winter and beginning of spring.
Holi celebrations takes place al over the place. For those wanting to get involved we’ll be providing white kurta pyjamas for you to wear and organic colours for you to throw. In this game of cat and mouse, stealth and the art of surprise will serve you well. After a bombardment of powder bombs and shower of water in every imaginable colour. Afternoon we will explore the city.
Day 06 24/03/2016 Jaipur – Mandawa
The day begins with a visit to the Amber fort, the former seat of the Rajput rulers of Jaipur. Ascending the fortress seated on elephants, wander around the beautiful palaces and visit the Shiladevi temple (which continues to be the private temple of the Royal family) with its exquisite marble carvings and silver door.
Afternoon trasfer to Mandawa.
The town of Mandawa emerges like a mirage. A medieval fort (dated around 1750) gradually rises on the horizon. The Mandawa bazaar has many painted houses, parts of which have now been turned into curio shops. The havelis of the Chokanis, the Goenkas and the Sarafs have extravagantly painted frescos.
On arrival transfer & check in at hotel.
Day 07 25/03/2016 Mandawa – Delhi
After breakfast, walking tour of Mandawa Village. Later transfer back to Delhi.
On arrival check in at hotel.
Day 08 26/03/2016 Leave Delhi
Intime transfer to airport to connect flight for onward destination.
